ABOUT US

Architecting a Peaceful Future, Led by Women and Youth

Amani South Sudan is a nationally registered, women and youth-led non-governmental organization, legally constituted under the South Sudan NGO Act, 2016 (Registration No: 5103). Our name, derived from the Swahili and Arabic word for “Peace” and “Aspirations,” reflects our core mission: to empower the people of South Sudan to build a just, resilient, and self-reliant nation.

Founded on the unshakable conviction that sustainable peace is only possible when women and youth are the principal architects of their own future, we are more than an aid organization – we are a movement for transformative change. Our identity and operations are fundamentally shaped by our commitment to feminist leadership, radical accountability, and the universal humanitarian principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, and Independence.

Our Integrated Approach: The Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus in Action

We recognize that the interconnected challenges of conflict, climate change, and deep-seated inequality require solutions that bridge traditional divides. We uniquely operationalize the Humanitarian – Development – Peace Nexus by designing integrated, multi-sectoral programs that simultaneously save lives, build resilience, and foster social cohesion. From urgent protection and WASH services to sustainable livelihoods and women-led peacebuilding, our interventions are context-specific, mutually reinforcing, and collectively contribute to long-term stability.

Our Foundational Commitment: How We Work

Our constitution mandates a culture of the highest ethical and operational standards, making us a trusted and effective partner.

  • Feminist Leadership by Design: Our governance is led by those we serve. Our Board comprises 80% women, and our leadership model actively dismantles barriers to ensure women and youth are the decision-makers at all levels.

  • Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP): We are accountable first and foremost to the communities we serve. We institutionalize robust feedback mechanisms and ensure community participation throughout the project cycle, in line with the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).

  • Zero-Tolerance Safeguarding: The safety and dignity of those we serve is paramount. We maintain and rigorously enforce comprehensive Safeguarding, PSEA, and Child Protection Policies, ensuring a safe environment for all.

  • Financial Integrity & Compliance: We maintain rigorous financial systems that ensure full compliance with South Sudanese law and the stringent requirements of major donors, including the UN, USAID, and FCDO. Our operations are transparent, audited, and built on a foundation of trust.

Legal Status & Governance
